Simone Johnson

Simone Hopkinson-Johnson, Director of the Child Development Center, has been working in early childhood development for 13 years and at Martha’s Table for 10 years.  She completed American University’s childcare program and the Montgomery County Childcare Association’s Leadership in Childcare program; she has her teaching certificate; and she is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and Black Families. Because of her demonstrated skills and commitment, she was awarded a scholarship from the Council of Governments to further her education. Simone is currently working towards her BA in early childhood education at the University of the District of Columbia. Widowed when she was 25 years old with an 11-month-old and a four-year-old, Simone also draws on her own life experiences in her work. Her personal understanding of issues from high-cost child-care to the difficulty of providing daily food on a small budget helps her serve the families better.
